Our editorial standards

How we research, write, review, and maintain the guides on this site — and why you can trust them.

Education, not advice

Everything we publish is general education. It is not personalized financial, insurance, tax, or legal advice, and it never recommends a specific product, carrier, or amount of coverage. We keep our language non-promissory — we’ll say what something can do, not what it will do for you.

How a guide is made

  1. Research. We start from reputable, non-commercial sources — such as state insurance departments and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners — and focus on the questions real people ask.
  2. Writing. A named author drafts the guide in plain language, defining terms as they appear.
  3. Review. A reviewer checks it for accuracy and clarity before it goes live. We show you who reviewed it and when.
  4. Updates. We revisit content over time and update the “last reviewed” date when we make meaningful changes.

What we will never do

  • Invent rates, prices, approval odds, or underwriting outcomes.
  • Present marketing claims as facts, or use fear or false urgency.
  • Copy another publisher’s content.
  • Share your information beyond what’s needed to help with your request.

Corrections

If you spot something that looks wrong, tell us and we’ll review it. Accuracy matters more to us than being first. [A dedicated corrections contact will be listed here once Seniors Lighthouse’s support address is finalized.]
